On My Cover
June 27, 2007 by maureen.ulrich.
The cover design for Power Plays and my author bio information is now uploaded onto Coteau Books’ website. Check it out!
The most incredible thing to me – of course – is the fact that my NAME is on the cover. It all seems very surreal.
No, I do not know who the girl is. My daughters immediately identified the Hockey Regina jersey she is wearing, and were miffed – to say the least. The Regina teams are the Xtreme’s great rivals (actually I could use that phrase to describe just about any team the Xtreme played), and my girls would have preferred an Estevan jersey on the cover. I told them just to picture it as a practice jersey and let it go.
I am also pleased by the dressing room setting, as opposed to portraying a female player on the ice. Since much of the book takes place in the dressing room, this choice is highly appropriate. The girl’s expression also alludes to the bullying aspect of the book, and that is appropriate also. Hopefully the cover will be appealing to kids – and that is all that really matters.
From July 9 – 13, I will be proofreading the galley proof of the book. Then – on to the presses! September suddenly doesn’t seem very far away.
I have added Coteau Books to my blog roll to make it easier for you to check out Power Plays. Have a look!
